Dwars door Drenthe marathon in Emmen:  coming soon

After another long preparation this summer, a few runners of the AJC will take part in the dwars door Drenthe marathon next week-end in Emmen. Much more original than the Amsterdam marathon (also coming week-end), the dwars door Drenthe marathon offers a very original route: 42,195 km of the very straight and very new "provinciale weg N381". With a bit of luck (wind blowing in runners' back), it might be a fast marathon. Registration is still possible. The organization offers the possibility to run also a half-marathon and a relay.

Run4Fun: resumed ^_^

The new Run4Fun started 2 weeks ago. Despite the poor weather conditions, the fanatics showed their commitment to the sport. Even in the rain, the runners came to their training appointment: very impressive! This time, the AJC provides many opportunities to enjoy running: 3 different days in the week, with 3 different "coaches" doing various training for EVERYONE. 30 km van Almere: the perfect distance ^_^

During a marathon preparation, the long runs require some logistics. Among many others, you have at least to take care of your food and make sure you don't risk dehydration. Long runs are also a good opportunity to test your gear, your shoes, and, of course, the pace at which you intend to run the coming marathon. So, if you take it seriously as a real repetition for the D-day, there are quite a few things to think about. That's how the idea came to use the 30 km van Almere as a "real conditions" test. Actually, using a race as a test in your preparation has many advantages. You do not have to bother about the drinks, the route, the traffic: it's all done by the organization. Moreover, you will be confronted to situations you probably never come across in your usual training: that little stress before the start, the solution not to get cold before the start, the search of YOUR ideal breakfast...

A half marathon would probably do the trick, but I felt 30 K was much better. It is probably just in my mind, but when I run a half-marathon, I have this little voice telling me "it's ONLY a half-marathon, it's over very soon". At the start of the 30K, maybe because it was my first 30K, the little voice told me "30K is a long way, you'll have to be patient".
So, I started cautiously and I really enjoyed it. I think the distance is just what your need: it's not too short so that you get some real impressions of how it will be like to run your marathon at this pace; it's not too long because it stops just before it hurts, so you recover fast. On top of it, it was a great test to try those little details that could make such a difference during a marathon.
In a word, next time you see a 30K race (there aren't so many): sign in ^_^
